Welcome New Students In order to register for spring semester classes, returning and newly matriculated students must attend orientation sessions on campus during the winter break (for more information about this process, go to: http://www.csus.edu/orientation/). In the Art Department, members of the full-time faculty and/or the Department chair will be meeting with all of the Art students on the afternoon of their orientation day. Major advising will be provided at this meeting but may have to be brief, depending on the number of students who attend and the number of questions that they have. Students who need additional advising → read more

Scholarships and Awards
Each academic year, the Art Department holds a Student Awards Show in the Robert Else Gallery. Awardees of our various scholarships, certificates and awards will be announced at the Student Awards Show reception on March 28, 2018.
Students can now apply for the following scholarships through AcademicWorks (found in your MySacState Student Center) through Feb. 16:

  • Juanita and Josť Montoya Memorial Art Scholarship, $500 award
  • Ruth Rippon Ceramic Scholarship, $1,000 award
  • Peggy Saunders Hall Memorial Scholarship, $5,000 award
  • Raymond W. and Joyce Witt Art History competition, cat. A, $100 award
  • Raymond W. and Joyce Art History competition, cat. B, $100 award

Additionally, students are able to submit their art works for consideration to be included in the Student Awards Show. Interested students are to submit the Studio Art Application to the Art Office by Feb. 16 (hardcopies are available in the Art Office). A jury of 3 regional artists are brought to campus to curate and judge the final showing. There are 4 art studio scholarship award categories that students may be selected for, in addition to certificate awards. Participation in the Studio Awards Show is open to all matriculated Sac State and Open University students. All participants in the Awards Show are eligible for consideration for certificate awards at the undergraduate & graduate levels. Students may submit as many as three works of art in any medium for consideration for inclusion in the Student Awards Show.

Art Department Art Collection Seventy of the over 400 works held by the Art Department Art Collection (not including the SOTA collection) are now online. The website, a work in progress, is created by Nancy Wylie (MA 2017, special major: Museum Studies - Art Collection Management) and displays the work of Art History students, who wrote the catalog entries on the artist pages. Art History alumna, Victoria Neuenschwander, a professional photographer, photographed the collection after tutoring from Sharmon Goff.
